Stones for Changing Times by Bridgette Raitz on 5/28/2018
Every day, it can feel as though we are surrounded by a great upheaval. Tis the season for life changes with weddings, graduations, new jobs and moves. And all done against the backdrop of what appears to be rollicking change in our society, the world, and perhaps most visually, in Mother Nature. All this change can feel chaotic, uncomfortable, confounding and exhausting. So, what to do? Whether you are celebrating a marriage or distilling a divorce, adding a new baby or sending your last child out the door, changing careers or where you live, it's a great time to ground, align, heal and support yourself as prepare for the next chapter. And who better to help than this loving group of able stone companions?
1. Hematite for grounding and aligning our body, mind and spirit
2. Bloodstone for helping us heal and increasing our energy and endurance
3. Chrysocolla for helping us go with the flow and embrace the changes
4. Scheelite for bringing on the love, support and community; and
5. Black moonstone for thriving in new transitions.
"Old ways won't open new doors."*
This is a very unique time in human history where our vibration is rising rapidly and old ways that have stood for many years are shaking and crumbling--and then falling- sometimes quite quickly right in front of us. How to stand tall and strong in the face of this outward chaos? First, ground yourself and bring your body, mind and spirit into alignment. Proper alignment helps us see the changes from a soul perspective and shine our light into the world to help others do the same. There are a number of wonderful stone allies that can assist including black tourmaline, shungite, smoky quartz, black onyx, jet, garnet, and one of my favorites, hematite. A number of these great stones have the added benefit of deflecting negativity and clearing the aura as well.
Hematite has been called the preeminent grounding stone. A mineral form of iron oxide, it is a naturally softer stone; it is typically crushed and reconstituted with a binding agent into matte or shiny beads and other shapes. It is very effective in grounding, protecting and bringing your body-mind-spirit into alignment. Physically and mentally, hematite is said to encourage vitality, courage, energy, mental focus, clarity, concentration and drive. Emotionally, it improves confidence and willpower and is a great aid for manifesting a higher purpose through our physical existence. Spiritually, it is excellent for drawing negativity away, and balancing both the yin-yang and the aura. An invaluable ally in shining our soul light into this world. Which is needed now more than ever! And I believe the best way to partner with this amazing stone is to wear it as a bracelet or anklet. Next best? Carry a pocket stone to keep it close to your energy field.
Once grounded, reach for your favorite healing stone and work some magic. Changes often bring up old hurts and wounds for healing that have been buried beneath the surface. Watching the events burst out in our society, such as the #MeToo movement, you can see many long-term and systemic issues are now coming to the surface to be healed---- individually, collectively and generationally. It can be alternatively exhilarating and painful to witness and even harder to process the different layers that emerge. Bloodstone is a go-to stone companion that helps heal and stabilize in times of need and is a powerful ally when you are faced with the winds of change.
"Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge." - Eckhart Tolle
Bloodstone, a combination of green chalcedony with dots of red jasper, is wonderful for healing, grounding negative energy and cleansing the body. When faced with uncertainty and change, this stone strengthens the base chakra, enhancing feelings of safety and security to help you heal, cope and thrive in transitions. It is good for strengthening bonds of love and understanding between friends, and helps ground the negative energies surrounding issues. It even works on mood swings, sluggishness and procrastination! Bloodstone helps you rebuild mind and body and restores you to a natural state of equanimity and joy.
Bloodstone is also said to increase energy and strength. (During the Middle Ages, bloodstone was believed to be a sacred stone linked to Christ’s crucifixion that held extraordinary healing powers. Ancient Greeks and Romans often wore this stone in athletic contests when endurance and physical strength won the day.) Bloodstone is a great ally for when you need a boost, to balance, or to detoxify. Also believed to be helpful in improving circulation, healing of injuries or wounds and with strengthening the blood. An excellent ally to help revitalize your mind and body for these changing times. So with an ally for grounding and aligning, and one for healing and standing strong, what's next? Learning to go with the flow, and resist the very human urge to fight change.
"Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like." Lao Tzu
For a go with the flow companion, I recommend a stone that will help you bend, sway and even dance with the changes. A number of stones, including all varieties of agate, larimar, aquamarine, and hemimorphite, and my favorite, chrysocolla, help you surrender to change, rather than fight it. Chrysocolla is wonderful for bringing peace, increasing wisdom and sharpening discernment. This stone also promotes level headedness, clear thought and a neutral, cool attitude during rough times. It can also be used to decrease nervousness and irritability. A peaceful stone of the Goddess, it encourages compassion, while stimulating a powerful, yet gentle transmission of your higher truth.
Chrysocolla is also a stone of prosperity that can stimulate the mind and relax emotions at the same time. This stone is also known for its healing properties- it is said to strengthen the immune system, help with infections, and lower blood pressure and hot emotions. It's strength is enhanced when used with copper. Once again, best worn, but if not keep it in your pocket, or nearby where you work, relax and play. A great calming, evening palm stone when meditating.
"We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky." Walter Mosley
Even with all of the allies mentioned above, we can always use a larger dose of love and acceptance. Because for healing, it's all about love. Loving yourself and loving one another. So, in making your way through rapid change, the need for self-love and self-care is preeminent. Seeing what you need, and allowing yourself to receive it. Many stone allies are on the front lines for just this purpose including rose quartz, rhodonite, rhodochrosite, rose aura quartz and kunzite. A new favorite that I recently found, scheelite, is a great choice for helping you to top off your tank with whatever you need- in terms of emotional, physical or mental support, so you can share the same with others.
Scheelite (also called blue scheelite or scheelite lace) is a combination of scheelite and either calcite or dolomite giving it a lovely coloration of white, blue and cream. This stone is wonderful for maintaining calm and balance in the face of change. As a loving ally, scheelite is a go-to utility stone to help with whatever we need- emotionally, physically or mentally. It has a strong feel-good quality about it and is a great companion when meditating or sleeping. Supportive and loving, scheelite feels like a comforting hug, bolstering us to face whatever comes without fear.
Scheelite bears with it a strong sense of community with All that Is and can enhance our natural connection to our guides and angels. Unfailingly supportive, this stone is a great choice for those who battle addictions of all kinds and feel loneliness from their uniqueness or due to unique and unrecognized gifts. For those creative types who need inspiration, scheelite helps move you along for the greater good of all. For a sense of calm and well-being, reach for scheelite and proceed ahead! Which brings me to the ultimate ally for transitions, black moonstone.
"She remembered who she was and the game changed." — Lelah Deliah
Just sit and breathe with that statement again.
Black Moonstone is a smooth stone that often has a silvery flash that plays across its surface when moved about in the light. Its color ranges from a dark slate grey to lighter shades of grey and even sometimes sports a red undertone. Like other stones formed with alternating crystalline layers, it has a certain chatoyancy also seen in tiger eye and kyanite. Moonstone has appeared in the jewelry of ancient civilizations.
Perhaps most importantly at this time, black moonstone is a stone of deep divine feminine energies that like all moonstones, enhances intuition and inner knowing, of ourselves and situations. Black Moonstone helps one to connect with feelings and emotions in order to allow, ease and embrace the changes of life, knowing that another phase is soon to begin. The stone is said to keep us centered as we age, and “for use during croneing and owl wisdom”. Black moonstone is said to be especially helpful when invoking energies of the new moon or for the benefit of the beginning of new phases of life.
All the stones are wonderful companions for wonderful new beginnings- take your time, explore, and find the right companions for your journey.
